Nothing beats motivated people who can accomplish any given task and rise to any challenge. A well-managed and healthy work environment with good internal communication often results in better and more useful outputs from all involved.

However, it is possible for even the best and most motivated employees to lose their motivation. The loss of motivation of even one hard working employee can undermine group morale. This should – and can – be avoided.

Why employees burn out

Some reasons that employees might “burn out” are:

Cannot connect to given tasks

Some employees lose their motivation because they are unable to connect to the given tasks. They will find it difficult to achieve their objectives and goals.  If left unchecked, this could distort and harm their productivity in the long run.  We must be mindful of an employee’s skills so that we can assign them tasks with which they are proficient.

Lack of confidence and competence

Someone who feels they cannot achieve desired outcomes on given tasks will not demonstrate enough motivation to do the job.

How do we respond to this? We must build their confidence and capability by talking about their past successful projects. We can also assign similar tasks to them so that they feel relaxed and confident in their work.

Emotions

Negativity shouldn’t be allowed to fester. When we have too much negativity, our work suffers.

Addressing Motivational Problems

We need to be human, good listeners, nonjudgmental, and open-minded to our employees.  This will help get to the root cause of the negative emotions that they are experiencing and better facilitate our employees feeling heard and understood.  This can help them overcome these negative emotions.

The truth is, many miss the most important perspective: motivation comes from the being and not from the doing.
